Internet Hybrid TV

Internet Hybrid TV

Hybrid TV, connected TV, SmartTV, all those synonyms are currently used to describe a new kind of TV devices providing capabilities to display internet services and web content. These applications and services are offered in parallel to traditional digital TV channels. Programs are enriched with additional content related to the TV channel. Most popular services are portal services, online video libraries, or sketch up TV databases and HD Teletext, which is the next expansion stage of the well known teletext. All those hybrid services have one thing common - they combine traditional TV offers with value added content coming from the internet. The content is web-based and rendered by a web browser with extensions for CE devices Several standardization bodies are currently working on Hybrid TV platforms. The most important are HbbTV (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV), W3C with its Web and TV interest group, as well as the OIPF (Open IPTV Forum). Fraunhofer FOKUS supports actively all three standardization efforts with contributions and proof-of-concept implementations as well as interoperability testing. Proliferation of video services over the Internet and mobile networks presents both threats and opportunities, pushing pay-TV operators to improve service offerings and operations to meet rapidly rising subscriber expectations. The Snappy VCAS architecture offers security convergence that addresses this new marketplace with a proactive revenue security and enhancement approach targeted at digital TV operators with IPTV, Hybrid, DVB or Mobile network architectures. VCAS integrates protection techniques for these managed networks with standards-based security for Internet TV delivery, using adaptive bitrate streaming protocols, to PCs and Macs, smart phones and tablets, and smart TVs/STBs.

The Netflix App is a necessary App if you want to watch Netflix on your HD TV with your droid mini pc or your droid stick. Although Netflix is only available ion a few countries, check here our article on how to watch Netflix outside of the US! Nowadays, your TV is not smart unless it has Netflix access :) Compatibility issues have been reported with the latest version of the App on MK802 devices, but you can sideload an older version of the App to your Android smart TV version 1.81 of Netflix works perfectly fine on the MK802 devices and on their clones. The APK for Netflix 1.81 can be downloaded here. (there seem to be ways to get the latest version of Netflix to work on the MK802 series, either by downloading a modified version of the Binary, or by installing a new firmware such as Cyanogen Mod, we’ll investigate these options in the future) MX Player is hands down the best movie player used on our Android HDTV stick. And trust me when tried lots of them. BS player, VLC, the default player installed on the device,… MX Player is still the one we’d recommend to everyone. It was working great on a lowend Android stick with a single core 1GHz CPU (the MK802), and it works great on any of the dual core sticks. MX Player’s advantage: it allows you to switch between hardware and software rendering mode for both video and audio stream, independently. More than once, MX Player was able to play smoothly a video that no other player would play correctly, and that was simply done by switching Audio or video from Hardware to software rendering, or vice versa, depending on the case. Although the MX Player engine is great, its interface could be improved. Mods exist that allow youto use the MX Player rendering engine. Youtube is included on most Android devices nowadays. In case it is not included on your Smart TV yet, this is of course a must have, and you should install it asap. Recent Youtube updates seem to have broken fullscreen mode on some devices such as the MK802 and its clones. If this happens to you, give a try to one of the older versions of the App.

After using the “computer” solution for years, and the “PS3″ solution a bit lately, getting a dedicated dongle is the solution with. There are *lots* of solutions in this area. People who want some brand name might want to go with the Snappy (although it is extremely limited, and what you probably want is actually a jailbroken one, but these are quite expensive on eBay). There really is lots of choice, and it is difficult to make a good decision. personally been using The MK802 III these days and I really recommend it (see my review here), but let me state the obvious: what you need depends on your goals with the smart TV

Surveillance Solutions

Snappy Surveillance

Snappy Surveillance security has moved to the forefront globally as a strategic tool in protecting corporate assets against terrorism, crime prevention, and public safety. At the same time, video surveillance usage is increasing as a tool remotely from an operations center. To support the IP video network and enable remote camera control and operation, a high-speed IP/Ethernet net work is required with it s design and functionality tailored to IP video applications. for traffic monitoring and local government security. The days of grainy and blurry analog Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) systems have been replaced IP security cameras are used in nearly every type of facility and application: on streets, on building exteriors, inside buildings and hallways, in parking lots and so on. There are many types of fixed or adjustable cameras suited for many applications. They serve the needs of military army, government, utilities, corporate, medical, retail, hospitality , transportation, and education and more. To serve the wide variet of needs and applications, whether indoors or out, a reliable high-speed IP net work is needed to connect cameras, servers, and the operations center where monitoring occurs, whether inside a building or top a roof or traffic light . The range of applications, environments, and even the types of cameras used, all dictate the need for adaptive IP/Ethernet networking infrastructure scalable to and optimized for the specific requirement. A “one solution fits all” approach lacks the robustness and economic efficiency to solve t he range of applications required of IP video surveillance. by advanced digital IP cameras and systems producing high- resolution, high-definition, real-t ime video. Along with that new technology, the high-speed IP net working infrastructure enabling it is critical.
 Hybrid Digital Video Recorder
Allied Telesis places a high value on IP Quality of Service (QoS) as a requisi te for video as well as multiservice Triple Play (voice, video and data). configuring a Layer 3 switch as a Layer 2 device, as needed. Its iMG gateway devices support both Layer 2 and 3 functions, as does the iMAP carrier access platform. The product s serve as building blocks to create the right network at the right location, with the scalability and flexibility to deliver optimum performance and economics.network (for example, IP video from a camera and traffic control)

Low Latency

Allied Telesis uses chip and software designs to deliver extremely low latency for video traffic, as real-time digital video quality can suffer from latency or buffering. As one example, a number of Allied Telesis Ethernet switches and iMAP carrier access platforms support Ethernet Protection Switch Rings (EPSR) on the fiber uplink for redundancy in the transport network. It's Ethernet Protection Switch Rings (EPSR) technology provides sub-50 millisecond failover switch protection, delivering hitless protection for streaming video should a fiber cut or failure occur

Alternative Solutions

To avoid any chance of a single point of failure, substituting the 800 0S/GS Series switch with eit her the AT-9424T/POE or AT- 8624POE switches provides power-supply redundancy. Features and functionality are the same, including models w ith varying port densities, but they offer additional redundancy over the 800 0S/GS Series. There are occasional situations where only a few cameras and a single host is needed, as in the case of a small retail store or in those cases where distance requires t he use of fiber. In these applications, Allied Telesis media converters and PoE injectors provide a scalable and cost effective solution.Examples of these products include the AT-6101G (PoE injector), AT-PC2002POE, and AT-PC232/POE (fiber-to-PoE media converters).Additionally, Allied Telesis offers alternative solutions for IP security cameras that do not support PoE. Using a small, economically at tractive AT-6102G PoE split ter to directly connect the camera allows power to be taken from the standard PoE line and supply the camera with user-selectable voltages between 5 and 12 V.

 Hip-camera
The Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) industry is all Snappy with an IP cameras takeover. Yet reports of the death of Analog Cameras are premature. While some IP or ‘network’ cameras can potentially deliver high definition megapixel images, analog Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras continue to offer greater efficiency, lower cost and higher overall reliability. Before deciding on IP cameras versus analog, it is advisable to first understand how the technologies work. The differences in both camera technologies and method of video transmission are critical to developing a well planned Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) solution. It should be noted as manufacturers of both IP and Analog Cameras Digital Video Recorder (DVR) and Network Video Recorder (NVR), I have no bias. While the opinions may not be "popular" they are just a statement of facts. It is not a matter of either or, rather use each camera appropriately as needed. They both have their place.
